Burns' Night

This week's session was hosted by Richard in the planned absence of Mike and Maggie. Since it was Burns' Night we had our fair share of Scottish songs and those with more tenuous links to north of the border. Derek also used the reburial of Ned Kelly as an excuse for singing songs relating to him and other Australian outlaws. Simon pointed out that it was Ewan MacColl's birthday, so Alan sang a couple of his songs.

Mike and Maggie will be back next week, and there are rumours that there will be theme of "60s": 1760s, 1860s and 1960s, that is. If you're intending to come don't worry, the theme is never too strict, especially for first time visitors.

Blog news

This is still the unofficial blog of The Dragon Folk Club but things are looking good for announcements in the near future. I set the blog up unofficially simply because I was doing some publicity for the club and I needed to be able to give the address of a website. I had no intention of upsetting anyone or treading on anyone's toes, and its looking OK so far.

The latest news from the club is that sadly last Friday's (18th Jan) session had to be called off because of the snow. Let's hope everything's back to normal by next Friday, which is of course 25th January, and therefore Burns' Night. I can't promise haggis but I'm sure there will be some Scottish songs in the air.
